About Us
Bluffview Greenhouse is a local family-owned business established in 1986 by Terry and Julie Sykes. They packed up their belongings with two small kids in tow and moved to De Soto from a small town in Illinois. They both had attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and loved the beauty of the mighty Mississippi River and the towering green bluffs. After researching locations they felt De Soto would be a great spot for a greenhouse. They were eager to start a new business and entrepreneurship is a strength for the Sykes family. Terry, the main grower and horticulture expert, learned all there is to know about plants from his grandfather who owned his own successful greenhouse in Illinois. Terry remembers his grandpa always telling him to make sure each potted plant was spaced in a diagonal row to allow each plant room to grow.
Ever changing and always expanding, Bluffview started as one small greenhouse and has grown to four large greenhouses in two locations. Besides the retail business, Bluffview wholesales to several businesses in the coulee region with delivery available. Bluffview also grows beautiful fall mums that are great for public or private fundraisers.
